Hoddesdon grew steadily through the Victorian and Edwardian periods, and properties from that era make up a meaningful part of the older parts of the town. These are typically solid-wall brick terraces built without a modern damp-proof course, or with an original slate or bitumen DPC that has since deteriorated or been bridged by raised external ground levels, accumulated render or built-up paving.
