Local property context
Property and moisture across Northamptonshire
Northamptonshire's traditional building stock includes a great deal of local ironstone and limestone, particularly in the north and west of the county and in the older parts of the market towns. Solid stone walls hold and release moisture differently from brick, and readings taken on them need to be interpreted with that in mind rather than at face value.
The county also has extensive Victorian terraced housing built around the boot and shoe industry in Northampton, Kettering, Rushden and Higham Ferrers, plus large post-war and later expansion in Corby and Daventry. Each brings a different mix of condensation, ventilation and defect-related moisture problems.
A large proportion of the county's rented housing sits within those older terraced streets, so a great deal of our Northamptonshire work is instructed by landlords, letting agents and housing providers who need a documented investigation with clear findings and a proportionate scope of works. Alongside that we survey commercial and mixed-use buildings, where basements, plant areas and unheated storage space raise quite different moisture questions from a family home.

Questions
Frequently asked questions — Northamptonshire
Do stone-built properties need a different approach?
They need careful interpretation. Solid stone construction behaves differently from cavity brickwork, and treatments designed for brick are not always appropriate. The survey establishes the construction before any recommendation is made.
Do you cover the whole county, including the smaller market towns?
We cover the NN postcode districts, including Oundle, Thrapston, Raunds, Irthlingborough, Desborough, Rothwell, Burton Latimer, Finedon, Towcester and Brackley alongside the larger towns.
Can you quote for remedial work after the survey?
Yes, where remedial work is genuinely needed. The report sets out the findings first; any quotation is itemised so you can see exactly what is proposed and why.
